Moose Facts You May Not Know…

Moose love the water and are great swimmers.

Did you know the average moose lives between 15 and 25 years? As we’ve been working on the Marvelous Moosey Adventures brand, we’ve learned all sorts of fun facts about the majestic moose we thought you might also like to know.

  • The name for a male moose is bull

  • The name for a female moose is a cow

  • A baby moose is called a calf

  • Female moose (cows) often give birth to not only twins, but triplets. The cows are very attentive to their calves who will hang out with their moms for at least a year.

  • The global moose population is estimated to be over 2 million with the largest population in Canada. The second largest population is in Russia.

  • The collective name for a group of Moose is a herd or gang (although most moose like hanging by themselves)

  • The sound made by a Moose is referred to as a bark or bugle

  • Herds are dominated by one female

  • The moose is the official state animal of the state of Maine in the USA

  • The biggest moose ever recorded was found in the state of Alaska in 1897 and stood 7.6 feet tall and weighed 1,807 lbs.

  • The plural of moose is…moose!

One of the strangest facts we found is that moose hair is hollow, which keeps these ginormous animals warm during the cold winter months.

While moose might seem like slow and adorable animals, the fact is they can turn violent when they sense danger and even a five-day old calf can outrun humans. The moral of the story is, if you happen to spot a moose, enjoy them from a distance and don’t do anything to piss them off!
